Do you think that placing a filter before the variable area flowmeter you have installed is a waste of time and resources? Keep reading and maybe you will change your mind.
The answer is simple: In order to prevent particles that may be suspended in the fluid which we work with and they can get to immobilize the float of the flowmeter.
Flowmeters based on the variable area principle comprise a measurement tube and and internal float.

The installation of a filter before the flowmeter will prevent that possible jams and damage of the measuring system occur. The mesh passage of the filter should be maximum 2 mm.
In the case that the suspended solids in the fluid being measured are magnetic particles, it is necessary then to mount a magnetic filter at the entrance of flowmeter. Thus we avoid the accumulation of these particles in the float because of its magnetic field, with the possibility they reach to immobilize it.
