Maintaining the required straight sections in the installation of the turbine flowmeter is important. We explain why it is so.
In a turbine type flowmeter, the existence of the straight section required before and after the sensor determines the correct operation.
To ensure a regular rotation of the propeller, it is imperative that the fluid enters the meter body in the most stable manner and with the minimal turbulence.
To install the turbine just after or before a flow disturbing element, such as an elbow, a reduction, a valve or a pump, causes that the liquid reaches the meter with a high level of turbulence, which will cause unstable reading and with errors.
It is therefore important to respect the straight section required before and after the installation point and further that said straight pipe run is the same diameter as the turbine in question.
These distances can be reduced by installing a flow straightener upstream of the turbine at a distance equivalent to 5 DN.
Did you know that the turbine flowmeter is one of the most used in the process industry? We explain why in this article of our blog.
